Welcome

Community Service includes the scope of activities which Rotarians undertake to improve the quality of life in their community. Many official Rotary programs are intended to meet community needs, whether it be to promote literacy, help the elderly or disabled, combat urban violence or provide opportunities for local youth.

 

 

Adopt a Family: Supports a needy family in our Club service area, solicits donations from individual Club members, and purchases and delivers appropriate food, clothes, toys and supplies to the family at certain times throughout the year. 

 

Bethesda Mission: Serves as the Club liaison with the Mission, and recruits two Club members to serve dinner at the Mission two evenings per month.  Our time slot is the first and third Thursday of each month.  Members need to be at the Mission by 4:35 PM.  Food serving starts promptly at 4:45 PM and ends at 6:15 PM. The mission is located at 611 Reily Street in Harrisburg.

 

Bowling for Books: Participates in the Simpson Public Library's annual fundraiser by recruiting at least four Rotarians to bowl in October or November.  Participating Rotarians seek contributions from other Rotarians, friends, family, colleagues and associates.

 

Creekview Family Fun Night: Coordinates Rotary involvement at this annual event in Hampden Township.  Community service organizations can sponsor a booth, stand, games, display, or sell food.  Hundreds of residents attend this event each year, typically held on a Friday evening in late-July at Creekview Park.

 

Fishing Derby: Promotes and organizes a fishing derby at the Conodoguinet Youth Park annually in June or July, in accordance with the appropriate licensing and seasonal laws, for the benefit of community children.

 

Golf Outing / Helping a Hero: Coordinates fundraising and local logistics in working with local affiliate of Helping A Hero, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-partisan organization that enables all Americans to say "Thank you for your service" to our wounded heroes in a tangible way. Helping a Hero builds specially adapted homes for severely injured military personnel and their families and adapts these homes for the specific injuries and challenges of our wounded heroes.

 

Highway Cleanup: Coordinates an effort to clean up a highway area in Hampden Township along Orrs Bridge Road.  Involves 1-2 hours of work two Saturdays per year.

 

Local Service Project: Explores the need for new local service projects.

 

New Hope Ministries Pantry: Works at the Food Pantry one Saturday per month. Help clients select needed food, stock shelves both in the pantry and warehouse and accept donations.  Successful completion of a background check is required prior to serving.

Philanthropic: Reviews our charitable giving, helps formulate the budget for that category, reviews new charitable contribution requests, and presents their findings to the board for their consideration.

 

United Cerebral Palsy Landscaping:  Maintain the landscaping at the United Cerebral Palsy Children's Center is located at 44 S. 38^th St., Camp Hill.
