HELPING A HERO GOLF OUTING 2014
Rotary Supports Local Disable Vets
Friday, July 25, 2014 • Carlisle Barracks Golf Club
Start Time 1:00 pm
For the last three years, the Mechanicsburg North and Carlisle Rotary Clubs have joined forces with HelpingaHero.org, a 501(c)3 organization, to construct specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. Our goal in providing homes to our wounded heroes is to equip them to transition successfully into their local community and to provide the tools they need to succeed in life.
Thus, we build specially adapted homes that allow our wounded service members to be as independent as possible and we place these homes, where we can, in communities where they receive ongoing support from neighbors, other military organizations and their local Rotary Club. In the past three years, we have raised more than $100,000 each year which, when coupled with donations of property, materials and labor from local businesses, enables us to build specially adapted homes valued at more than $275,000.
HELPING A HERO GOLF TOURNAMENT 2015
This will be the fifth year that the Mechanicsburg North and Carlisle Rotary Clubs have partnered with the helpingahero.org, a 501(c)3 organization, to construct specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan.
Our goal in providing homes to our wounded heroes is to equip them to transition successfully into their local community and to provide the tools they need to succeed in life. We have been able to award three homes to date and may have a potential candidate for a fourth.
Sgt. Dennis Leonard’s home was constructed in Middletown. We hope to see construction be completed this year on Sgt. Rob Easley’s home and that of Corpsman Justin Hendrickson. We are expanding our program this year to include a partnership with Harrisburg Area Community College.
It has been determined that there is a real need to assist returning veterans with continuing education which fits in with our goal of assisting these heros transition into civilian life. There are certain expenses that the GI Bill may not cover and we are working with HACC to identify those items and individuals that we may be able to assist. We have been able to raise these funds through the generous support of corporations and individuals like you who recognize the extreme sacrifices that these young men and women have endured in the name of freedom.
We will be having a Golf Tournament again this year at the Carlisle Barracks Golf Course on July 24, 2015 to raise the necessary monies.
